Currency and Lifestyle

From Asmythe

Asmythe RPG uses a fairly standard currency system, but abstracts small daily expenses into a Lifestyle cost. Characters keep track of their wealth as a monetary value which is used to purchase equipment, services, and support their lifestyle.

Lifestyle

Instead of paying for every meal and belt, characters have a lifestyle cost. Every month or so characters pay once for their lifestyle and then enjoy the room and board granted by that lifestyle.

It is easy to drop down a lifestyle, but very difficult to increase your lifestyle. Raising your lifestyle to one you had before costs twice the monthly cost. Raising your lifestyle above any you have had before costs 10x the monthly cost and a quest to find your new place in society.

Lifestyle Monthly Cost Description
Beggar $15 Beggars are unemployed and homeless. You wear tattered clothes and rely on the generosity of others to eat, usually just bread and weak broth.
Laborer $75 Laborers have difficult and demanding jobs. You live in a boarding house or barracks, have simple clothes, and eat simple meals that lack flavor and variety.
Commoner $200 Commoners are junior craftsmen or clerks. You rent a room and have a few sets of decent clothes. You eat nutritious meals that often include spice and fat.

Goods and Services

Specialty goods and services that are not included in the lifestyle must be purchased with cash and coins.

The cost and availability of goods and services varies greatly depending on the setting. Those listed on the Goods and Services page are for a standard fantasy setting.
